"Knowledge is power". Mural painted on the facade across the back yard of Ateneu de Rubí. Ateneus have traditionally been spaces where diverse activities promoting science and culture are organized. The term Ateneu comes from Atenea, Greek goddess of wisdom. The building of Ateneu de Rubí was built by Climent Riba, a farmer from Rubí that emigrated to Chile in a moment where the town, basically rural, was affected by the crisis of the phylloxera. In Chile he made a fortune with guano, a type of natural fertiliser. When he returned to his hometown he built a modernist house that today is used as a service building to spread culture and promote social practices. Throughout the years it has become a reference space for the associative network of the town.
